It started more than 10 years ago...
In 1990, a group of unpaid senior citizens in Næstved, started collecting reuseable products for Lithuania. Just before that, Lithuania was out of long-standing occupation by Russia and, like Latvia and Estonia, Lithuania became a independent country with its own economy - and needs!
Already, at that time, the needs were alarming big.
The establishment of the union:
In Næstved the collecters founded a union, and it was obvious to call it Nødhjælpsdepotet known as Danish Relief Group.
It is many years ago and Danish Relief Group has send more than 250 filled containers to Lithuania. The needs are still incomprehensible huge - especially provincial towns and in the country. That is why we keep on working with this project.
A voluntarily effort:
All collecting are still - in debt to a lot of great people - on voluntary basis. Gradually, people has found out that the Danish Relief Group is here to stay, and many institutions, companies and private persons keep returning with reuseable products.
Some of the contributors even deliver its recycles to the Danish Relief Group, and that is something we are happy about as we have to pay the transport in Denmark on our own.
Previously the ministry of foreign affairs (International Association) has given money to pay the transport to Lithuania but it stopped when Lithuania got into EU. Therefore we use a lot of time to collect economic help from conutries, companies and private persons.
